January Estonian Lace Shawl - pattern

Here is the first of my planned 12 shawls with Estonian Lace Patterns (see this blog post for explanation).

The January shawl features a classic twig pattern. This variation also have nupps.

Here is a chart and key for the pattern (repeat in red):

 Twig Pattern with Nupps

Yarn used: KnitPicks Gloss Lace, 100 g
Needles: US 6 (4 mm)

How I did it:
  • Cast on 91 sts,
  • Knit 6 rows, then work the body of the shawl as follows:
    • Odd rows: k4, sts 1-3 once, sts 4-14 seven times, sts 15-17 once, k4
    • Even rows: k4, p to last 4 sts, k4
    • Repeat 8 rows of Chart 52 times or to the desired length
  • Knit 6 rows
  • Cast off all sts.
Wash and block the shawl.

You can see that the shawl is pretty long!
The finished size:
16 x 79 inches
or, in metric system:
42 x 200 cm

Happy knitting everyone  - I am off to knit the February Shawl!

Four Leaves Wrap - First Pattern Release in 2014!

Hello all!
I trust that life is treating you well and you are looking forward to new FOs this year!

Over the last three weeks I was able to finally sit down, write and proof several patterns that were in my head for the last year. So, here is a first one! Introducing

Four Leaves Wrap

The pattern motif on this wrap comes from one of the Japanese knitting dictionaries (with my modifications, of course - can't just follow the pattern!).

The wrap (a long and wide scarf) features  lacy clusters of four leaves - very pretty and elegant without the feeling of "overboard".

Four Leaves wrap is that essential accessory that you reach for on a cold day or may be you will make it for your friend who is in need of a prayer shawl...

Here are the specifications:

Yarn: 200 g (50 g, 150 m/164 yards, 4 balls)
Wrap on the picture is knitted in Cervinia “Softer” (50% mohair, 50% acrylic)
Needles: US 6 (4 mm)

Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm)
Finished size: 64 x 16 inches (165 x 40 cm)
Pattern has both Written and Charted instructions

I offer this pattern for sale as an instant download through Raverly
for US$ 4.00
By the way - you don't need to have a PayPal or Ravelry account to purchase the e-book,  you can use your credit/debit card, like in any other on-line transaction.

Thank you very much for your interest and support!
I am also in a process of finishing a pattern for a matching hat - stay tuned!
Happy Knitting Everyone!

Estonian Lace - New Year Resolution

Ok, it is officially a New Year - and here is my New Year Lace Resolution:

in 2014 I will challenge myself to knit 12 lace shawls (one a month) using 12 different Estonian Lace Patterns. To keep myself accountable I will make a post about this project on the last Friday of every month with a picture of the finished shawl, scheme of the pattern and a brief description of yarn type, yarn amount, number of stitches, etc.

Here, I said it!

I have already chosen 12 patterns that I will be using (probably in a somewhat random order):

In case you are wondering where I took this patterns from: a couple years back I bought a wonderful book, so I am using it for inspiration.

If you want to check it this book out - it is available through Amazon.com here:

OK, now my resolution is in writing (or printing?), so I can not back off. Check back on January 31, 2014 - I should have one shawl ready!

Happy Knitting everyone!
